Columbia Insurance Earns AM Best “A” Rating

Milestone reflects strong momentum and commitment to shared success

Columbia Insurance is pleased to share AM Best upgraded the company’s Financial Strength Rating to A/stable from A-/positive. This meaningful recognition reflects Columbia’s sustained performance, disciplined strategy and long-term momentum.

“This is great validation for Columbia. One of our top priorities is building financial strength to ensure we can take care of our policyholders when they need us most,” said Todd Ruthruff, president and chief executive officer. “An upgrade to ‘A’ is a direct reflection of the responsiveness, service-orientation and discipline our people bring every day. More importantly, it sends a clear message to our agents and policyholders that we are strong, and we are building a bright future for shared success.”

AM Best recognizes Columbia’s financial discipline that reinforces stability across its family of companies. This upgrade reflects years of focused execution and positions Columbia among a select group of carriers achieving this level of financial strength.

“We’ve been intentional about refining our underwriting approach and managing risk with precision while also continuing to grow our book of business,” said Keith Maciejewski, senior vice president and chief underwriting officer. “This recognition confirms our strategy is delivering the intended results and strengthens our confidence in our strategic approach to the market.”

Columbia’s disciplined approach to financial growth is supported by robust risk-adjusted capitalization, a high-quality investment portfolio and strong liquidity.

“We’ve built a great foundation, and we’re using it to grow in smart, sustainable ways,” said Kelly Klug, senior vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer. “This upgrade is a powerful vote of confidence in our direction, our financial strength and our ability to execute.”

The new rating also underscores Columbia’s partnerships. By building real connections with agents and delivering responsive, dependable service, Columbia continues to create shared success.

“This achievement belongs to our team and the agency partners who trust us every day,” Ruthruff said. “It’s a meaningful milestone we’ve reached together, and we’re just getting started.”

Columbia’s newest endeavor, Ozark Specialty Insurance Company, received a rating in conjunction with the parent company and its affiliates Columbia National Insurance Company and Association Casualty Insurance Company. To learn more, see AM Best's press release.
